Iva Gene Miller, 90, of Lakeside died Feb. 4, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 27, 1922, to the late William Clarence and Burma (Browning) Davenport in Richland Springs, San Saba County, Texas. The family moved to Arizona later that year.
As a child, she loved the outdoors, riding horses, being her dad’s sidekick and her sister Lyrmah’s companion. She attended Glendale Union High School and Lamson Business College and was an exceptional secretary, working for Shell Oil Company until her marriage, and thereafter whenever they could convince her to come back and help out.
She was very proud of her husband of 59 years, George Miller. They were very much a team, and in retirement they traveled the nation in their travel trailer, danced the two step at every chance, and hosted friends and family with beautiful garden produce and fried chicken dinners. Gene was a superb homemaker, a wonderful seamstress, a pianist who played entirely “by ear,” and a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family will remember her for her amazing efficiency and capability, as well as her loving nature, and she will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Delbert) Etter; grandson Scott (Jennifer) Etter; granddaughter Julie (Mike) Heal; nieces Norma Wood and Lynda (Dave) Klapprott and nephews Larry and John Wilson.
Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the Chronic Disease Fund, 6900 N. Dallas Pkwy, Ste. 200, Plano, TX 75024.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the Solterra event room, 5408 W. White Mountain Blvd., Lakeside. Inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ.
