JOHNSON, George Albert


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, February 05, 2013 George Albert Johnson, 88, went to be with the Lord early Feb. 2, 2013. He had been lovingly cared for at home by his daughter, Victoria, son-in-law, Michael, and Michael's mother, Shirley Collier. A special thanks to Granite Mountain Home Care hospice for all their wonderful care. George was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, to Muza Dean and George Dalton Johnson. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater from Utah Beach Normandy on D-Day, through France and Austria. He married Inez Williamson on Dec. 9, 1945, in San Leandro Calif., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2002, after 56 years of marriage. George is survived by a large and loving family, including his sister, Glenna Rath of Port Orchard Wash.; and six children, George (Tracey) Johnson of Henderson Nev., Linda Walmsley of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Wayne Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, Richard (Tammy) Johnson of Dewey, Ariz., Victoria (Michael) Collier of Prescott, Ariz., and Jennifer (Ken) Coughran of Orangevale, Calif. He was blessed to have 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. George was a small business owner in California for many decades and was always a hard working provider for his family. He loved talking current events, history, literature, telling stories, reading, crossword puzzles and sports. Like so many men of his generation, George was honorable, generous, patriotic and strong. He loved well and was well loved and will be greatly missed as we await the day we are reunited in heaven. Memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at the Veterans Chapel on the grounds of the Prescott VA facility. Information provided by survivors.
