The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, November 8, 1971 Emile Matthew Ward Emile Matthew Ward, 66, a former Prescott resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1971, at the Dearborn County Hospital in Aurora, Illinois. Born June 14, 1905, in New Orleanes, La., his occupations included a sailor, painter, crew foreman and policeman. He moved to Prescott in 1934 and started placer mining on Lynx Creek. During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Oakland, Calif. In 1947 he returned to Prescott and worked for the W. J. Henson Contracting Co. While working for the contracting company, he taught himself the art of fingerprinting by using the F.B.I. manuels and in January of 1954 he joined the City Police Department in the identification bureau. He spent 16 1/2 years with the Prescott Police Department. Upon his retirement in June 1970, he was chief of the indenification department and held the same office in the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department. He was also a charter member and past president of the F.O.B. Lodge No. 19, in Prescott. He is survived by his wife, Luella; one brother, Michael Henry of Prescott, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorial services were conducted Oct. 16, in the Aurora church by Rev. Jackson Stutler and burial was in the Butler County Memorial Park, near Trenton, Ohio.
