CHAPMAN, Steven Lawrence (Steve)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, February 10, 2013 - Steven Lawrence Chapman passed away Nov. 6, 2012 in Wolf Creek, Ore. at the age of 65. He was born Aug. 20, 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Ellen Blanche (Gust) and Lawrence Leroy Chapman. Steve was attending Fullerton Junior College in California when he received his draft notice during the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a communications specialist at the Air Force Technical Training Center. After four years he was honorably discharged. Upon his return home, Steve was employed by the Home Oil Company in Anaheim, Calif., spraying crops while completing his AA degree at Cayucos Junior College. He went on to pursue his degree in Agriculture at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Following his education, Steve established his own crop spraying business on the West Coast However for the last 17 years he drove 18-wheelers for Gordon Trucking Company. Steve had a passion for trains and enjoyed kayaking, hiking, camping, fishing, water skiing, scuba diving, geology and astronomy. Steve was an avid reader, a storyteller, industrious, adventurous and an “out-of-the-box” thinker. In addition to being a solid, loving father and friend to his daughter, he was a friend to many. He leaves behind his mother, Ellen; daughter, Ashley; aunts, uncles, cousins and a large extended family. A Celebration of Life will be at Lietz-Fraze Chapel on Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Matt March offering words of comfort. Military honors given by the VFW Post 9401.
