Dr. Carol J. Reichert-Boggs (Dr. CJ) of the Prescott Country Club in Dewey, Ariz., died on Jan. 12, 2013, following a difficult battle with stage-4 cancer.
Dr. CJ was born April 7, 1946, to Charles and Stella Reichert of Washington, Pa., where she was raised. She graduated from Trinity High School with "high honors." She completed her undergraduate degree at Seaton Hill College, where she was elected to Who's Who among Students in American Colleges and Universities. She gained her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio University while on a full academic scholarship.
Following a one-year paid internship at St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital in Washington D.C., she was hired to work with long-term psychiatric inpatients. She served at the federally operated hospital for 30 years in clinical and administrative roles i.e., director of Child and Adolescent Services, and director of Forensic Out Patient Services from which she retired. She was one of the earliest mental health professionals to recognize and lecture on professional burn out. She received many honors during her tenure. Additionally, she held a private psychotherapy practice, serving the Washington D.C. metro area for 25 years, with a specialty in strategic family therapy.
Finally, she served at the domiciliary in the Northern Arizona VA Medical Center in Prescott. She was a true patriot who highly valued our U.S. veterans, and was honored to serve them. Professionally, she was known for having superior problem-solving skills, complete with a masterfully used sense of humor, that was extremely stress relieving and comforting.
While at St. Elizabeth's, Dr. CJ met her husband Curtis Wison Boggs (Curt), who was an intern in psychodrama and group psychotherapy. They were married on Dec. 14, 1977, in Arlington, Va. They had a son, Justin Reichert Boggs, who tragically died in an auto accident at age 22. In her immediate family she is survived by her husband, Curtis; sister, Sandi Ciorchi of Dallas, Texas; father-in-law, Dominic Lynch of Clayton, N.Y.; and her extended family currently numbered in the 60s.
Carol enjoyed domesticated animals, early American antiques, auctions, garage sales, the great outdoors, motorcycles and her greatest love was singing intimate worship songs to Christ.
Finally she was frequently quizzed about the confluence of mental health and Christianity, and her answer was always the same, "It's Jesus!" Her going is our loss and Christ's gain.
A service took place for her at her home the day she went home with the Lord. Her body is to be cremated and placed beside her parents and son in Washington, Pa. In the spring, a service will take place in her honor that will include a patriot motorcycle ride, as she was central to the development of the Americas 911 Memorial Ride and the Honor and Remember Rides of Yavapai County.
Sunrise Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements. Please visit www.sunrisefuneralhome.com to sign Dr. CJ's guestbook.
