James (Jim) A. Chappell, of Dewey, Ariz., passed away at the Margaret T. Morris Center in Prescott on Feb. 6, 2013. Jim was born in Yuma, Ariz. on Jan. 18, 1921.
He attended the University of Arizona before joining the United States Coast Guard, serving during World War II. After the war, he settled down in California where he finished his undergraduate degree at the University of California, San Luis Obispo. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to owning and operating two produce growing and packing companies. After the passing of his wife, Connie, he retired to Flagstaff, Ariz. in 1986. He married Carol in 1989, and they relocated to Dewey, Ariz. in 2006.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Chappell; his sister, Ruth Secrist; his son, Bill (Chris); several grandchildren and great grandchildren who live in California; and Carol's children, Chad (Michelle) Gorman and Cari (Gersh) Salisbury.
