Buddy "Bud" Baldwin, 81, of Blythe, Calif., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Hospital Community Living Center in Loma Linda, Calif., after a short battle with cancer.
Bud was born in Osceola, Iowa, on March 23, 1931. He moved with his family to Glendale, Ariz., prior to World War II, then to Blythe after the war. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a resident of the Palo Verde Valley for more than 50 years and worked as a cowboy in the feedlots, as a journeyman electrician, and as a co-owner of Shepwell's Ready Mix. He was active in community service as a volunteer fireman, a member of the Jaycees, a leader in Boy Scout Troop 49, and a leader in the Palo Verde 4-H Club. He continued to actively participate in rodeo competitions well into his 70s.
Bud is survived by his two sons, Brian (Frances) Baldwin and Curtis Baldwin; brother Robert (Harriet) Baldwin; sister Wanda Smith of Glendale, Ariz.; cousin Jerry Baldwin of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wes and May Baldwin, and brother Darrell "Rex" Baldwin.
Bud was a loving and devoted father, animal lover and a true friend to many. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Frye Chapel & Mortuary of Blythe (www.fryechapel.com).
Funeral and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, also at Frye Chapel, and will proceed to Palo Verde Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
