Helen C. Lerner, 91, of Kingman passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Cerbat Guest Home in Kingman. She was born April 1, 1921, in Erie, Pa., to Raymond and Edna Grace St. Clair. She came to Mohave County six years ago from Southern California, where she resided from 1946 to 2006.
Helen graduated from high school in Indiana, Pa., and was head cook in the school cafeteria of Hudson Unified School District, La Puente, Calif. She retired from the school district in 1966.
She was a member of the Lions Club, den mother for Boy Scouts of America and Blue Bird Leader of Campfire Girls. She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and became a K.O.P. and Queen in her district in 2003.
She was happily married to William H. Lerner ("Bill") for 61 years; he preceded her in death in 2002. Also, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward Lerner ("Eddie"); her parents, Raymond and Edna Grace St. Clair; a sister, Louise Widdowson; and two brothers, Kenneth and Billy St. Clair.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Michael) Willis of Golden Valley; her son, William R. (Sherry) Lerner of Devine, Texas; and her brother, Raymond D. (Marion) St. Clair of Indiana, Pa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kristi (Skip) Willis-Crane, Roy (Sharon) Lerner, Bryan Willis, Stephanie (Russell) Crossland, Leslie Lerner Wheeler, Randy (Pam) Lerner and Kevin (Heather) Willis. Also surviving are 18 great-grandchildren, Mikey, Tyler, Corina, Frankie, Kendra, Jeffrey, Daniel, Amanda, Jordan, Justin, Joseph, Tiffany, Kristin, Taylor, Brooklynn, Ashlynn, Emily and Miranda; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ava Jane and Allison. Helen also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Another survivor left behind is her very dear pet companion, her loving dog "Sadie" who faithfully visited her at least twice a week, giving her "furry" hugs.
Helen's last three years were spent at Cerbat Guest Home in Kingman, where she was known as "Scooter" to all of her caregivers and friends.
She was a loving, caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. After retiring, her many hobbies included walking, tole painting, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.
A celebration of life and tree planting will follow at a later date with friends and family.
