Catherine (Kanky) Brush Johnsen, 77, passed away at her home in Scottsdale, AZ on April 10, 2004.
She was born in Bound Brook, NJ to DeEtta and Fred Brush on February 19, 1927.
A Kappa Alpha Theta at Syracuse University, class of 1948, she was married for 51 years to Dr. John H. Johnsen, former head of the Geology Department of Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY.
Kanky and John traveled the world over, making many new friends along the way. In addition to traveling, Kanky spent much of her time supporting and volunteering in her church and for the charities she valued. Kanky was also an avid needle pointer.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Johnsen of Estrella Mountain Ranch; her identical twin daughters, Chris Stoutenburgh of Scottsdale, AZ and Cindy Booth of North Kingston, RI; four grandchildren - Sarah Booth, Dave Booth, Erica Stoutenburgh, David Stoutenburgh; one great-grandson, Benjamin Stoutenburgh and her sister, Ellenor Reynolds of Williamsburg, VA.
A memorial service was held Thursday, April 15 at St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or St. Barnabas. Messinger Indian School Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
