The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/22/2013 Col. Bob Roy Frisby, USAF retired, died Feb. 18, 2013. He was born May 20, 1927 in Sherman, Texas. Bob Roy Frisby was a proud Hubbard High School football player and graduate and Baylor football player and graduate. He was a Sgt. in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Germany during World War II and played football after the war in Europe with the Army Air Corps. In Air Force Office of Special Investigations from 1951 to 1968, he commanded detachments in Orlando, Spokane, and Rhine/Main AFB in German and the OSI District in Greece. He served in counterintelligence staff positions in Chicago, the Philippines, and Barksdale AFB. Changing to Security Police in 1968, he served as Director of Security for 22nd AF, 7/13th AF and Military Airlift Command, including Director of Presidential Security, retiring in 1975. He received MA degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Washington State University, was a graduate of OSI Basic, Advanced and Specialized Counterintelligence Courses, Polygraph School, SOS, Armed Forces Staff College and Industrial College of the armed Forces. He received the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, USAF Commendation Medal, two foreign decorations and 14 other U.S. decorations. Subsequent to retiring as a Colonel in the USAF in 1975, he formed two consulting corporations, using mainly Security Police and OSI retirees until he fully retired in 1997. After retirement, he was very active in community, charitable, and church activities in Corsicana, Texas, serving in leadership of the Texas Youth Commission, including being honored as their state volunteer of the year in 1998, Gideon’s International, Corsicana Police and Firemen’s Civil Service Commission, Navarro County Association of Retarded Citizens, United Fund of Corsicana, and Corsicana Rotary Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He chaired Corsicana Civil Service Commission, Navarro County Planning and Zoning Commission, organizations for battered wives and families and a ranch for mentally challenged persons. He was active in St. John’s Episcopal Church for many years, and First United Methodist Church, and was a member of the choir at both churches. He was appointed the “Daily Points of Light” Award for Aug. 13, 1998, in recognition for his commitment to connecting Americans through service to others and the outstanding example of citizenship that he demonstrated, signed by Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton. Col. Frisby was married to Martha Montgomery Frisby for 60 years. She preceded him in death Nov. 13, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Jones Frisby Revis, grandfather Thad Jones and cousin Mike Sims, all of Hubbard. He is survived by two daughters: Robin Sherman Fuller (Jeff), Amy Wynkoop (Charles); grandchildren: Rachel Sherman Oliver (Conrad), Joshua Starling, Alyssa Starling, Anna Sherman, Abby Starling, Annie Starling; step-grandchildren: Zachary Fuller, Kelci Fuller, Emma Fuller and Kaylee Wynkoop; aunt Kyrene Sims of Hubbard. He was also father to two sons, Gregor and Mark, who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew Rev. Matt Marshall officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard, Texas. Pallbearers will be Joshua Starling, Jeffrey Fuller, Charles Wynkoop, Ronald Matthews, Conrad Oliver, David Taylor, and Dr. Bob Kingman.
