COTTLE, Marguerite W. (Maggie)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, February 21, 2013 Marguerite W. "Maggie" Cottle, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. A memorial service will be at 2 pm Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Longview, Texas, with the Rev. Scott Hookey officiating. Her ashes will be interred beside her husband at the Aztlan Masonic Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz. Maggie was born on April 19, 1923, and grew up in Charleston, W.Va. She married the love of her life, Howard Allen Cottle, on Oct. 15, 1947, in Johnson City, Tenn. Maggie was a loving mother for her family of five sons and proudly told anyone who would listen that "not a one of them had ever gotten into any trouble." While raising her family, Maggie was a proud full-time employee of Sears Roebuck and Company for 30 years. She also loved people and was an active member of many social and service organizations, including past member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, past member Soroptimist International, President and District Director of Business and Professional Women's Foundation, past Matron of the Golden Rule Chapter No. 1 and member of Sunrise Chapter No. 60 of the Order of Eastern Star, past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge Western Star No. 9 and State President of the Arizona Rebekah Assembly, past President of Noon Lioness Club, member of Hualapai Court No. 17 of the Order of Amaranth, member El Giza Temple No. 139 of Daughters of the Nile, and a member of Starlight Shrine No. 1 of the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem. Maggie had a soft place in her heart for children, animals and her country, and was a frequent donor to such varied charities as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, ASPCA and the Wounded Warrior Project. She was also notorious for her love of chocolate and the color red. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Howard; father Alexander Lewis White; mother and stepfather Maxine Marybelle Risk and Moses David Risk; and one son, William Philip Dews. She is survived by four sons, J Heber "Danny" Dews and his wife Gwen of Birmingham, Ala., Kenneth Cottle and his wife Candy of Fort Worth, Texas, Raymond Cottle and his wife Janis of Longview, Texas, and Robert Cottle of Santa Clara, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Carmen Dews of Shreveport, La.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
