West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Friday, February 22, 2013 Greg Brannan, 56, formerly of Buckeye died Feb. 13, 2013, from thymic carcinoma. Mr. Brannan was born Aug. 31, 1956, in Phoenix to George and Gayle Brannan. He grew up in the community of Liberty and graduated from Buckeye High School in 1974. By the age of 19, he was hired as a graphic artist for the television news department at Channel 12. He won several national awards for his work and became the head of programming at CBS 5 News. In 1993, he began working for E! Entertainment Television, where he eventually served as executive vice president responsible for all programming on E! and Style. Later, he worked in similar capacities for Tech TV, LTN, MobiTV and CNET. He also published A Brannan Family History and Desert Standard Time, a fictionalized memoir of growing up in a small desert town. He is survived by his wife, Huyen; one son, Avery; one daughter, Leila; his mother, Gayle; three brothers, Doug, Jeff and John; and two sisters, Jane and Wendy. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. March 16 at the Shadow Rock United Church of Christ, 12861 N. Eighth Ave. in Phoenix. A reception will follow.
