Bernice "Beanie" Narehood, 86, of Camp Verde, Ariz., and former New York State resident, died on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in Camp Verde following a lengthy illness.
Beanie was born on Nov. 12, 1926, in Rome, N.Y., where she spent her early years. She later moved to Canastota, N.Y., and graduated from Canastota High School in 1945. She worked at the Army Depot in Rome during World War II and later became a dental assistant for more than 20 years, retiring in 1982. She has lived in Arizona since 2005.
Beanie was very active in AARP and through it became a volunteer at the Oneida, N.Y., Extended Care Facility and Madison County Triad. She was a member of the Canastota Senior Citizens Club and Library Club and was named Senior Citizen of the Year in 1996 by the City of Oneida. Beanie loved to knit, was an avid reader and was the librarian at Samaritan Village Towers in Prescott, Ariz.
She married Carl E. Narehood on Sept. 21, 1946, in Rome. Carl predeceased her on Aug. 5, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Robert Ramsdell of Chino Valley, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Kelly Ramsdell and her husband, Donald Guess; one great-granddaughter, Sloan Ramsdell Guess of Chandler, Ariz.; as well as several out-of-state relatives.
