Boyd Roger Barnhart, 81, died March 5, 2013 in Cottonwood. He was born August 1, 1931, in St. Louis, MO, to Alvin and Catherine Mitchell Barnhart.
“Roger,” as he was known by, served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War Conflict.
He worked for many years as a Diamond driller and in 1959 he was part of the crew that discovered the material that today is mined by the Phoenix Cement Plant. Later, he worked as foreman for the town of Jerome and then went on to work on his own as a plumbing contractor and landlord. He enjoyed helping his wife, Juanita, with her import business, and building cement sculptures and fountains.
Roger was always there for his family and helped whomever was in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Roger is survived by his wife Juanita, sons Jimmie Barnhart and James Treakle (Debbie); daughters Ronda Young, Gloria Gundelach (Bill), and Rosemary Treakle. Also a brother, Lowell Barnhart (Betty), nine grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 13 in the Westcott Funeral Home chapel. Funeral will be Thursday, March 14 at Westcott Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Azteca Cemetery in Cottonwood.
