The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Friday, March 08, 2013 Linda Harrison was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on Aug. 21, 1939, daughter of Winslow and Ruth Elizabeth Walcott Leighton. She died of cancer, at home, on March 5, 2013. Linda grew up in upstate New York, and then graduated from George School, a Quaker school in Pennsylvania, in 1957. Following that she went on to Middlebury College where she earned her BA and MA, majoring in German. The last year of work for the MA was done in Mainz, Germany, and was followed by a year of teaching in Berlin, Germany. Linda married Richard Harrison in 1965. She spent many years as a housewife and homemaker, but also taught German at both the high school and college levels. Then, at about 40, she attended Syracuse University to get her MSW. Following that she worked in the county social services department for several years before establishing her own counseling practice. Linda and her husband lived most of their married life in Corning, N.Y., and moved to Prescott in 1999. Linda has sung in musical groups since high school and in Prescott was a member of the choir of the Prescott United Methodist Church and the Yavapai College Master Chorale. She was also active in Open Door, the Smoki Museum, AAUW and the Alzheimer's Association. Linda is survived by her husband; a brother, Peter; two sisters, Amanda and Jennifer; and by the couple's sons, Jeffrey and Steven; and Jeffrey's wife Jenna and children Evelyn and Eli. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Prescott United Methodist Church. The family has requested that memorial gifts in Linda's name be sent to the Open Door program of the Coalition for Compassion and Justice at CCJ/Open Door, Box P.O.
