Charles (Chuck) Hendricks passed on March 1, 2013. He was born in Minneapolis in 1943 to Elizabeth Rivenes and Lloyd Hendricks, who died in WWII. Charles spent his early years in La Jolla, California where his mother married Air Force Pilot David Porter. He traveled with his military family to many places in and outside the United States. His travels continued in the US Marine Corps after his graduation from Arizona State Teacher’s College (NAU).
He Served in the infantry in Vietnam and became a Marine Corps Captain. Upon his return he continued his education at Arizona State Teacher’s College (NAU), receiving a Master’s Degree in Education and Counseling. In 1972 he gave up his Porsche, Landcruiser, and endeavors around the world for an insta-family when he married Kirsten with her two young daughters. He became a counselor at Thomas Elementary School, which he loved. He retired in 1998.
He enjoyed reading, road trips, going to Lake Powell, skiing, photography, and playing golf. He enthusiastically shared his pursuits and deeply cared for his family.
Charles is survived by his wife Kirsten, daughters Kelly Suggs and Wendy Tucker, Son-in-Laws Chris Tucker and Gene Suggs, four grandchildren, Jaelynn, Avery, Ariya, his sister Becky Porter and brother David Porter.
The Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, at Victorious Life Christian Center located at 755 N. Bonito St., (formerly Flagstaff Middle School) at 2:00PM. There will be an open house following the service at 3563 W. Kiltie Loop.
