George Henry Amen Sr. began his journey into the afterlife March 7, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 63. George was born in Lincoln, Neb., July 18, 1949, to Evelyn (Miles) Amen and Godfred “Duffy” Amen. He graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to attend Southeast Community College and Nebraska-Wesleyan in Lincoln, Neb.
George was a captain with the Lincoln Fire Department for nearly 30 years. He retired from the fire department in 1999, soon after he moved to Lake Havasu City, with his wife, Maxine. George was a man of many talents, from playing in country music bands, running an at-home recording studio “Two-Fers”, coaching his son’s midget football team, composing music with his daughter, playing golf in the Havasu City League, fishing with his friends and family, and his latest hobby of U.S.P.S.A. competition pistol shooting, where he was one of the original team members of Extreme Shooters and a member of the Mohave Green Shooters in Kingman and London Bridge Action Shooters in Lake Havasu City. George was known for his big heart and uncanny sense of humor; he loved his family, friends and dogs, Prince and Samson.
George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maxine B. Amen, of Lake Havasu City; son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, George ‘Hank’, Brook and Addilyn Luyre Amen, of Dallas, Texas; and daughter, DeVee ‘Dee’ R. Amen, of Maricopa, Ariz. George had the opportunity to welcome his future son-in-law, Caleb H. VanGrinsven, into the family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn; and father, Duffy, both of Lincoln, Neb.
A celebration of George’s life will be Friday, at 3 p.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home 21 Riviera Blvd., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
