Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Thursday, March 21, 2013 - James W. Jones, 27-year resident of Lake Havasu City, was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Johnson County, Ind. to Nelson D. and Marie G. Jones. He passed away March 18, 2013. Jim spent his childhood on the family farm. He graduated from Franklin High School, where he served as class president and played varsity basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Ann Wasson, July 7, 1944. They have lived happily for 68 years. He attended Franklin College and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He became a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot during WWII, was a flight instructor, served in Guam, and was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officer’s Association; retiring as a Lt. Col. after 28 years of service. While a flight instructor at Luke Field A2, he flew into Site 6 before Lake Havasu City was here. He was associated with the family farm, served on the Johnson County Zoning Board of Appeals, belonged to Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and was a 50-year member of F&AM Lodge 107 of Franklin, Ind. and Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. He was President of the Johnson County Pilots Association, served as Deacon Trustee, Treasurer, and a choir member of the Community Congregational Church in Franklin, Ind. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and with Frances, their church, traveling and friends. They have two children, Ward L. Jones, of Washington, and Nancy J. Krueger, of South Carolina; six grandchildren and a great-grandson; and sister, Mildred J. Rosenburg, of North Palm Beach, Fla. Graveside services 10 a.m., Friday, March 22, Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Havasu P.O.
