The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona, Thursday, March 21, 2013 Jane E. Phillips passed away at home with her family by her side on March 10, 2013. She was 82 years old. Jane was born on October 29, 1930 in Coolidge, Kansas to Rolo and Mary (Carter) Ewers. She attended Otero College in Colorado, majoring in journalism. Later in life she was a professional cake decorator and a tireless advocate for children and education. She was a leader of many youth groups, and both volunteered and sat on the school board for Clarkdale-Jerome School for 19 years. She also worked for the Verde Canyon Railroad and was the senior citizen director for the Yavapai-Apache Nation in Clarkdale. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Phillips, her sister Thelma and her brothers, Barton and Marion. She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Betty) Phillips of Clarkdale and Tracy (Chris) Phillips of Chandler, AZ; her brother, Rolo (Patty) Ewers of KS and her sister, Deliza Whitworth of NM; 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A Memorial service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church on the Yavapai-Apache Reservation in Clarkdale, AZ on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.
