The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Saturday, March 23, 2013 Walter Eric Cox 1920 - 2013 Walter Eric Cox, 92, lifelong Arizona resident passed away March 17th. Born in Flagstaff June 16, 1920 one of 9 children born to Lydia and Cleve Cox, Walter attended school in Camp Verde, Beaver Creek and graduated from Flagstaff High School. After service in the Coast Guard during World War II, he returned to the Verde Valley and worked in the Jerome mine. During this time Walter enjoyed the many dances held in the area and at a Beaver Creek School dance he began his courtship of Jeanne Dircks, the pretty young lady he would marry. Walter and Jeanne were married for 56 years before her passing Jan. 6, 2004. A member of Local #428 he worked as a heavy-duty mechanic, welder and equipment operator on road and power plant projects throughout Arizona. Walter was a lifetime member of Verde Valley Horseman’s council and took great pride in his work on area horse trails. Hunting, fishing, camping and water skiing were a big part of Walter’s life and he could often be found on horseback or enjoying his boat. Walter loved a good practical joke, had a great sense of humor and loved to share his stories. He will be remembered for the ornery twinkle in his eye and big soft heart. He will be greatly missed by his family, son, Warren Cox (TJ) of San Diego, daughters, Janice Wilson (Reid) of Jonesboro, GA and Nola Wesley (Jim) of Cave Creek, AZ and grandchildren, Erica Wilson of Brooklyn, NY, Victor Wilson of Atlanta, GA and Joshua Salyer (Wesley) of Tempe, AZ. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 6th from 1-4 at Camp de Ensueno, 115 Camp Lincoln, Camp Verde, AZ 86322. Call 480-201-1982 for additional information.
