Don L. Daggett, 83, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2013, surrounded by family. Don was born in Erie, Pa., on Nov. 21, 1929, and in high school moved with his family to Phoenix.
After falling in love with the fresh air and pine trees of Flagstaff, he moved here in 1963. A master carpenter and later a general contractor, Don helped build a good portion of Flagstaff, including Continental, Swiss Manor, Cheshire, Foxglenn, and commercial buildings including the Pony Soldier Motel and Desert View Babbitt Trading Post at Grand Canyon. Don will forever be loved and remembered for his sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his love of adventure.
Over the course of a life well lived, Don logged thousands of miles, fished hundreds of lakes, and never failed to stop in any tiny saloon he happened upon. His love of the outdoors and his zest for all that life had to offer are the hallmarks of his life.
Don is survived by daughters Becky Daggett of Flagstaff and Debi Lamkin of Phoenix; stepdaughters Susan Alvin of Flagstaff, JoAnn Bean (Gordon) of Valley City, N.D., and Debra Nine (Gary) of Queen Valley, Ariz.; stepson Bill Henson (Rhonda) of Flagstaff; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; nephew Mike Eppler (Chris) of Flagstaff; and Bink, the dog who adored him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Wanda, parents Maynard and Kathleen, sister Mary Frances Eppler, brother Joseph Daggett, and his partner in adventure LouAnn Henson.
A celebration of his remarkable life will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Starlight Lanes, 3406 E. Route 66 in Flagstaff.
Friends are asked to bring their humorous stories of Don’s exploits and adventures.
To honor Don’s life, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a scholarship fund at the Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy, 3401 N. Fort Valley Road, 86001, or call (928) 779-7223 for information.
