DYESS, John Jr. John Carlton Dyess Jr., 78, of Payson, a retired Casa Grande police officer, died April 24, 2004 at home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud Casa Grande Chapel, with Cecil Dyess officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Mr. Dyess was born March 16, 1926 in Centerville, Texas, and was a son of John and Bessie Dyess. He served in the Navy for four years during World War II and for eight years in the Naval Reserve. He was a police officer in Casa Grande for 22 years and retired as a sergeant, working in the photo and identification area. He believed in serving his country and city. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Geneva E.; three daughters, Susan Smith of Buckeye, Barbara Barlow of Upland, Calif., and Rigel Gay Dyess of Bowling Green, Kentucky; a son, John C. Dyess III of Parker; two sisters, Lavada Fitch of Howe, Okla., and Lucille Lea of Phoenix; a brother, Cecil Dyess of Casa Grande; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
