Jose "Chino" Avalos Romero, 89, of Avondale died March 26, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise.
Mr. Romero was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Limoncito, Jalisco, Mexico, to Santiago Romero and Victoria Ana Avalos.
He moved to Arizona in 1961 and worked as an irrigator.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Goodyear.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Romero.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Martinez Romero; five sons, Everett Romero, Ismael Romero, Robert Romero, Jose A. Romero and Steven Romero; three daughters, Nancy Romero-Nunez, Vickie Romero-Flores and Lupita Romero-Doyle; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 6 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary recital at 7 p.m. and services at 8 p.m. Saturday at Regency Mortuary, 9850 W. Thunderbird Road in Sun City.
