Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, March 31, 2013 - George Harry Smith Jr. passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Phoenix at the age of 71. George was born Feb. 24, 1942 in Chicago, Ill. to George and Jean (Whitlock) Smith, Sr. Upon graduating from high school, George enlisted in the United States Army Sept. 6, 1961 and was honorably discharged on Aug. 7, 1964. After his service in the military, George met the love of his life, Donna Wendtland. The two were married in February of 1968. In 1985, George and his family moved to Lake Havasu City where he worked for Citizens Electric and Unisource Energy until his retirement in January of this year. Everyone that knew George loved him. He will be greatly missed. George is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna; daughter, Jeanine Louthan, of Lake Havasu City; son, George Kevin "Bucky" Smith, of Lake Havasu City; granddaughters, Breanna Louthan, of Lake Havasu City, Teresa Smith, of Tennessee and grandson Joshua Louthan, of Lake Havasu City. He was preceded in death by his grandson Christian Smith in 2000. A celebration of life will be Thursday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in George's name to the March of Dimes, which George strongly supported, or the American Cancer Society.
