Today's News-Herald, Lake havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, March 31, 2013 - John James Drives died Jan. 27, 2013 at home with family from congestive heart failure. John was born July 27, 1930 in Madison, Wis. to John and Edith Drives. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and joined the Army, proudly serving in the 26th Infantry Scout Dog Platoon in Korea and Japan. He got his D.V.M. at Michigan State University in 1960 and moved to Sheboygan, Wis. to set up a mixed veterinary practice. He worked at his animal hospital for over 30 years, later focused on small animal medicine and surgery. While in Sheboygan he was a member of the Elks Club and Yacht Club and served as president of the Sheboygan County Humane Society and Lions Club. After moving to Lake Havasu City he became active in the Lake Havasu Yacht Club and Desert Hawks Model Airplane Club. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and he enjoyed singing in the Lake Havasu Community Choir. He loved sailing, playing bridge, reading and model airplanes. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving him, his loving wife of 55 years, Shari; children, Paddy Drives Phillpotts (Vic), Marietta, Ga.; Peter Drives, Lake Havasu City and Molly Drives Seeman (Bill), Circle Pines, Minn.; grandchildren, Ian, Keely and Quinn Phillpotts, Marietta, Ga. and Erin and Patrick Seeman, Circle Pines, Minn.; brother, Houghton (Laura Lee), Madison, Wis. and cousins and nieces and nephews in Wis. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to the K-9 unit, Mohave County Sheriff Department, 600 W Beale St., Kingman, AZ 86404 or Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City.
