Maxine Willis-Klein went home to be with her Lord Thursday, March 28, 2013, in Kingman. Maxine was born July 2, 1919, to Cyrus R. and Helen W. Fosnot in Onawa, Iowa. She resided in Kingman for 74 years.
She was married to Charles A. Willis for 27 years. She later married William "Bill" Klein and was married until his death in 1991.
Maxine was involved in her family and community life. She attended th school and sports events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was awarded several service awards, including the Exalted Ruler Award for service given by the BPOE Lodge for 1984 to 1985 and the Appreciation Service Award for the KHI Executive Board for 1983 to 1984. She held offices in the Fire Ladies Auxiliary and Elks Ladies Auxiliary, and was president of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary for 1983 and 1984. Maxine received the Lifetime Achievement Andy Award and the Volunteer of the Year Women Making History Award in 2003. She was also a member of St. John's Methodist Church.
Wife, mother, homemaker, Maxine expanded her horizons to working at the Central Commercial Company in downtown Kingman for 32 years, and was co-owner of a flower shop and plant nursery. After her retirement, Maxine joined the Kingman Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Volunteers. Several years later she became Gift Shop manager and buyer. In 2007, Maxine retired with 27 years of volunteer service and 35,000 hours worked.
Survivors include: sons, Charles Karl Willis (Shirley) and Darrell E. Willis (Judy); daughter, Sandra Cofer; sister, Mildred Bahr (Ken); sister-in-law, Nelda Klein; grandchildren, Cristi McReynolds (Ken), Clyde Cofer (deceased), Cassie Pewitt (Josh), Carissa Dunbar (Travis), Jared Willis (Jessie), Cheryl Canez (Michael), Roger Dye and Ronny Dye; great-grandchildren, Stacy McReynolds (Darrell), Casey McReynolds (Amy), Sandra McReynolds (Mike), Miranda Canez, Marissa Canez, Hannah Pewitt, Andrew Pewitt, Luke Pewitt, Brooke Dunbar, Jack Willis, R.J. Dye and Hannah Dye; and great-great-grandchildren, Clint McReynolds, Hyatt Barrett, Latigo Barrett and Katelyn McReynolds. She also leaves a host of loving friends from the KRMC Auxiliary, Hostess Club and the Daughters of Mohave County Pioneers.
Maxine lived life to its fullest. She believed keeping busy was the sign of a healthy body and mind. She loved to participate in every family holiday and birthday.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave.
In lieu of flowers, Maxine asked that contributions be made to the KRMC Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 3269 Stockton Hill Road, Kingman AZ 86409.
