DUNSMORE, William (Bill)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, April 04, 2013 William "Bill" Dunsmore started his next journey at 2:58 p.m. on April 2, 2013, beginning at the Veterans Administration Hospital Hospice Unit. He was 72. Bill was born in Austin, Minn., on Feb. 6, 1941, to Frank E. and Rexiene, (nee Startzer) Dunsmore. He graduated Austin High School in 1959, earned an associate's degree from Austin Community College in 1961, a bachelor's degree from Mankato State University in 1963, and his master's degree from University of Southern California in Systems Management in 1973. Bill met Darlene at a Civil Air Patrol encampment on Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and married her in Mapleton, Minn., in September of 1963. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and served as an Intelligence Officer in locations around the world from Vietnam to England to Germany and in the United States, and as a missile launch commander in North Dakota. He retired in October of 1983 as the Director of Intelligence at McGuire AFB, New Jersey, where he received an honorable discharge after 20 years of dedicated service. He then worked in financial services and asset management for 18 years and retired in 2000 as a vice president. In 2001, he moved to Prescott, Ariz., where he built his dream home with an awesome view of Thumb Butte. He actively volunteered his time at the Veterans Administration Hospital, welcoming guests and making their stay more comfortable. He loved to take his therapy dogs around the Community Living Center, and worked with the Library of Congress on the Veterans History Project. He was active on Sacred Heart's financial committee. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter (Dawn). Bill is survived by his wife and their two sons and wives, Frank (Kathy) and Eric (Bonnie), and several grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Hospital Chapel on Ft. Whipple.
