Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Monday, April 8, 2013 - Jerry DeLane Hill passed away April 5, 2013 with his loving wife of 52 years, Bertie, at his side. His last words were “let’s go fishing.” He’s survived by his three children, Steven Hill (w. Marci Hill), of Clovis, N.M., Sherry Matzdorff, of Lake Havasu City, Lisa Hatchell. (h, George Hatchell), of Kingman; eight grandchildren, Ashley and Chris Adams, Chip Hatchel, Devon Mills, Rachel Matzdorff, Mandy Bitson (h. Mike Bitson), Amber Dercks (h. Chris), and Ryen Nelson (h. Mitch); seven great-grandchildren, Kaden Adams, Madison Williams, Alexandria, Michaela and Nicklaus Dercks, Elizabeth and Rebecca Bitson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Annabelle Hill; brother, Tommy Hill; and sister, Betty Jo Ott. Jerry was born in Kingman Sept. 3, 1939, and married his wife, Bertie, Sept. 10, 1960. With his best friend, Bertie, and his three dogs Nikki, Cricket and Lulu, at his side, he lived his life to its fullest doing his favorite things fishing and hunting, camping, quad riding, off-roading and spending time with family. He served in the Army National Guard from 1959-1967. He was responsible for surveying the existing highway from Bill Williams River to I-40 and much of Lake Havasu. Jerry retired after more than 32 years with Mohave County as the Emergency Services Director in September 2002. He was a proud member of the NRA and, even at the age of 73, could still hit the bull’s-eye on a target. Jerry loved John Wayne and country music by Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. One of his favorite songs was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” which is how lived his life. Memorial Services will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave., Kingman.
