Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 David Portillo went to heaven on Jan. 28, 2013. He was surrounded by loved ones as he left. He was born in Miami, Ariz. on May 10, 1930. He was the son of Luz B. Portillo and Romulo Basurto. He was a long time resident of San Diego, where he was part owner of a well-known Scandinavian furniture and imported crystal business called BoDanica of La Jolla. He also worked for many years for Levitz furniture, where he was recognized many times for his outstanding performance and abilities. In his earlier years in San Diego he was Southern California Regional Manager for Handyman Corporation. He returned to his home town of Miami several years after he retired. He served as a Town Council member and was active in the VFW. He requested that his ashes be returned to Cherry Flats in Miami, where he played as a child. He is very loved and admired by many people, especially his very large family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Concepcion U. Portillo; and four children, Irma Frances, David B., Frederick J. and Carol L. Portillo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Irene Michelle Scully, and Fred Jr., Amanda, Molly, Chelsea, Jamila, Lucas, and Benjamin David Portillo; and by six great grandchildren, Dominic and Malia Newland, Troy Scully and Erica and Emily Portillo. A memorial service will be held April 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Celebration of Life Presbyterian Church in Mesa. A reception will be held at the church following the reception.
