Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from April 10 to April 17, 2013 - Joyce Elois Sorenson, age 82, an 8-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., died Thursday, April 4, 2013. Joyce was born May 23, 1930 in Rochester, Minn. Her family traveled between Rochester and Los Angeles, Calif. in her early years, where she graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1948. She married her husband, Chubby, on February 3, 1951 in Rochester, Minn. Shortly thereafter they moved to Southern California to raise their family. After raising their family, Joyce and Chubby retired to Bullhead City, met many new friends, and enjoyed the company of many friends that followed them here. Before retiring she worked in food services at Cypress College in Calif. She was a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, CCD Teacher, and was a member of TOPS, Columbian Ladies, The Prayer Chain, and Saint Vincent DePaul Society. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Warren "Chubby" Sorenson; father, Charles Chilson; mother, Mary Ames Chilson; brothers, Chester Chilson, Calvin Chilson, and Sherman Chilson. She is survived by two sons, David (Susan) Sorenson of Yreka, Calif., and Dan (Renee) Sorenson of Bullhead City; daughter, Debbie (Jack) Haller of Bullhead City; grandchildren, Christopher, Melyssa, John, Mike, Vickie, Ed, Jennifer, Josh, and Lynn; and numerous great grandchildren. Joyce's family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for their loving care and support, especially Robyn, Heidi and Grace. Rosary will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Dimond and Sons Silver Bell Chapel, 2620 Silver Creek Rd., Bullhead City, Ariz., with a memorial service following. A celebration of her life will be held at her son's, Dan's, home after the service.
