West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Friday, April 19, 2013 Rosalia AcquaViva DiMaio, 103, of Avondale died April 10, 2013. Mrs. DiMaio was born May 1, 1909, in Salemi, Sicily, to Francesco and Petrina AcquaViva. She took a ship to America alone at the age of 15, and was met at Ellis Island by her father and her soon to be husband. She married Leonard DiMaio Dec. 1, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved to Arizona in 1975. She was a longtime member of the United Garment Workers Union and a member of the Glendale Mayor's Senior Citizen Advisory Panel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leonard; two daughters, Petrina and Michelina; and one grandchild. She is survived by one son, Bennie Baldassre; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Rosary recital at 6 p.m. at Green Acres Glendale Mortuary, 5830 W. Missouri Ave. in Glendale. A church service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis the King, 4331 W. Maryland Ave. in Glendale, with burial to follow.
