ANDERSON, Irene Elaine

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Friday, April 19, 2013 - Irene Elaine Anderson, 86, of Lake Havasu City, went home to be with her Savior March 27, 2013. She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Evelyn Anderson on May 30, 1926. Irene graduated from Central High in 1944 and later graduated from New Tribes Bible Institute in Wisconsin in 1956. After graduation from Bible college, she was a missionary to Mexico for many years. She taught the Word of God to orphans and village children and received dental training. She gave dental care at no charge to people in need while sharing the Good News of Jesus. After retiring from mission work, Irene returned to the states to make a home in Southern California for many years. There, she taught Sunday school, several subjects in Christian schools, and led college-age Bible studies. In 1990, Irene retired and moved to Lake Havasu City. She was lifelong teacher continuing to teach Sunday school and began teaching ESL classes. Irene was also a lifelong learner attending aerobics classes and Bible college courses. Although she never married and never bore children, Irene nurtured and mentored countless children through the years always remembering to send a birthday card to each child that came through her class; a practice she continued until her death. At her beloved church she was known as Ms. Irene and to her “family,” the Hunttings, she was known as Grandma Rene. Although the Huntting family is happy that Irene is now “present with the Lord,” she will be sorely missed having been an integral part of the family since 1974. She is survived by several cousins in Minnesota. A Celebration of Irene’s life will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Lakeview Community Church in Lake Havasu City. Thoughts, memories and condolences can be sent to www.lakehavasumortuary.com. Arrangements are under the care of Lake Havasu Mortuary and Crematory.
