Margarita (Margot) Cartanya Safsten, 42, passed away May 10, 2006, at the family home in Mesa, AZ. Margot was born in Reus, Spain, Nov. 12, 1963, and moved to the United States Oct. 1, 1986. She married Mark Ellsworth Safsten Dec. 20, 1986, and the family moved to Mesa, AZ Jan. 1, 1990. All who knew Margot recognized her beautiful, loving and kind spirit. Her home reflected love and friendship to everyone who entered. Her testimony of Jesus Christ permeated all she did, and all who met Margot felt they were better for having known her. Her faith throughout her long fight with cancer has been an inspiration to all. Everything beautiful, lovely, or of good report was a part of her life. Margot used her artistic skills to decorate her home and volunteer in local schools. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Menlo Park Ward), and enjoyed the teaching and administrative positions she held there. She also served a successful full-time mission for the Church in the Madrid Spain Mission (1985-86), and her missionary focus extended even to the last days of her life. Margot will be warmly remembered by all that knew her, and with great love by her family and friends. She epitomized her life's callings of a wife, mother, and missionary. She is survived by her husband, Mark E. Safsten, a son, Greg, and five daughters, Leyla, Julianna, Miriam, Annika and Alida. She is also survived by her sister, Rosa Cartanya of Tarragona, Spain. Margot was preceded in death by her parents Xavier (Francisco) Cartanya Rosello and Magdalena Mestrich Jove. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday May 16, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Citrus Heights Stake Center, 2549 N. 32nd St. in Mesa. Visitation will be at Bunker's Garden Chapel at 33 N. Centennial Way, Monday May 15 from 5-7:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
