Kelly Voyles, 57, died Tuesday April 16, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born March 20, 1956, in Phoenix. Kelly was an Arizona native and resided in Glendale. He grew up in the Phoenix neighborhood of Arcadia, graduated from Arizona State University in 1978 and joined the family business, Pioneer Distributing, as a teenager. His parents wanted him to learn the business from the ground up and Kelly spent many teenage summers loading trucks, filling drums and making deliveries. He, along with brother Craig and sister Sally, grew up learning the family business at their father Leo’s side. From 1979 until his passing, Kelly was co-owner and vice president.
In 1977, Kelly met his future wife Janet at Pioneer Distributing. They married in 1980 and together raised two sons, Tyler, 28, and Clayton, 27. Kelly, an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed bow hunting and fishing with his sons, spent many family vacations in the White Mountains and also had a love for American-made sports cars.
Throughout his life, Kelly loved to toil and tinker away on modifying and restoring the classics, ranging from Camaros to Corvettes. Kelly took his love of the road to the air and learned how to fly ultra-light aircraft. Once he mastered that, he spent many years flying a Cessna 172. Kelly also was a talented golfer.
Kelly is survived by his beloved wife Janet of Glendale; son Tyler of Glendale, son Clayton of Glendale; mother Vera of Nutrioso; brother Craig (Jan) of El Cajon; sister Sally of Phoenix; niece Michelle of Davis, Calif.; nephew Brian (Ashley) of Rocklin, Calif., and niece Tiffany Stultz of Chandler.
He was preceded in death by his father Leo.
Kelly will be laid to rest at the family homestead in Nutrioso.
There will be a private family service Tuesday, April 23. Relatives, friends and customers are welcome to join the Voyles family in celebration of Kelly’s life at the public memorial from 12-3 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Pioneer Distributing, 1300 N. 24th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009.
