Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Jule Grippin (September 11, 1932 - April 18, 2013) Longtime Flagstaff resident Jule Ilo Grippin passed away on April 18, 2013, after a long illness. Jule was born in Williamsburg, Kansas on September 11, 1932 but grew up in Phoenix from the age of two. As a youth, he spent many summers working on his granddad’s ranch in Camp Verde. In 1951, Jule joined the Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant, stationed in San Antonio, Albuquerque, Spokane, and Denver. He and his crew loaded nuclear weapons during the Korean War, and he remained in close contact with his crew until his death. In 1955, Jule married Leona (Lee) Ziegler from Collyer, Kansas. The couple made their home in Phoenix until 1958, when they moved to Spokane, Washington for Jule to attend Gonzaga University Law School. Jule worked for many years as an insurance adjustor in Washington and Great Falls, Montana. In 1970, the family moved to Flagstaff and Jule joined an independent adjusting agency and later established his own business, Alpine Adjustment. After selling his business, Jule went to work in 1982 for the Coconino County Superior Court, serving as bailiff and law librarian. He retired in 1993. Jule is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leona (Lee), his sister Patricia Hall, his three daughters, Jackie Driscoll, Jody West, and Jerrie Carli, his sons-in-law, Bob Driscoll and Bill Carli, his grandchildren, Justin and Nicole Corey, Daniel and Jennifer Driscoll, Kacie and Frankie Imbilli, Megan and Ross Abaya, Kerri Driscoll, and Patrick Driscoll, and his great-grandchildren, Jackson Imbilli and Kaitlyn Driscoll. Jule is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ava Grippin, his brother Philip, his sister Phyllis Collin, and his two best buddies, cousin Ron Grippin and Wayne Bonner. A celebration of Jule’s life is planned for 2:00 on Saturday, April 27 at the Flagstaff Elks Lodge at 2101 N. San Francisco.
