Alyce Tyler Tinthoff died peacefully May 18th, 2007, in Scottsdale, AZ, after suffering a stroke. She was 95.
The oldest of seven, Alyce was born in West Branch, IA in 1912. She met Fred Tinthoff in Chicago in the early 30's, where she worked as a legal secretary and attended the Art Institute of Chicago. They married in 1937 and were stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico during WWII.
They returned to Illinois where she was active in Girl Scouts, PTA, garden clubs and art. In 1963 they moved to Rossmoor, CA, where she pursued her art career and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Japan, Bali, Egypt, India and Africa. After Fred's death in 1979, she moved to Sun City West, AZ and continued to travel, visiting China twice and returning to Europe and Japan.
In 2004, she moved to Westminster Village in Scottsdale, AZ, to enjoy being closer to family and her beloved great grandchildren. Alyce was known for her outgoing personality and love of conversation. She was blessed with a long and productive life, and we, her family, will always remember her with love.
Alyce is survived by her three daughters, Trish Mayberry (Bill) of Paradise Valley, AZ, Linda Landau (Jim) of Orinda, CA and Terry Jones (Irving) of London, England; five grandchildren, Michael Mayberry, Karrin Taylor, James, Elizabeth and Alex Landau; two great grandchildren, Bennett and Kate Taylor; sister, Winifred Joost, and brother, Richard Tyler.
A memorial service to honor Alyce's life was held Friday, June 8th, 2007, at Westminster Village, 12000 N. 90th St., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weyrich Health Center, Att. Nellie Sorrell, Director, 12000 N. 90th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, or to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
