Gloria Cansino Day passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, May 29, 2007 in Mesa, Az.
Gloria Lopez-Cansino was born on February 21, 1933 in Madrid, Spain, She was the only daughter of Abelardo Lopez-Cansino and Jouquina Perez-Maffe. Gloria spent her childhood in Spain and as a young adult worked as an au pair in London, England. Gloria returned to Spain to study at the University of Madrid, School of Journalism for one year. She worked as a model in Europe and had a passion for classical art and literature.
Gloria met the love of her life in Madrid and spent the remaining 46 years of her life happily committed to her husband, George, a navy veteran. Together, Gloria and George, traveled through Europe and enjoyed sailing together. Gloria gave birth to daughter, Alice before they moved to Maryland, finally settling in Merrimack, NH where they stayed for many years. During her years in New England she worked in retail sales for fine jewelry at local department stores, as an interpreter for the Nashua Family Planning Clinic, a frequent guest on the local talk radio show and assisted a feature story writer of the Nashua Telegraph newspaper.
Gloria proudly became a United States Citizen on September 16, 1983 in the Superior Court, Hillsborough County, Manchester, NH. In later years Gloria moved from the New England area to retire in Mesa, AZ, for the last 12 years.
Gloria will forever be remembered as a loving, marital partner to George, and mother to Alice. She leaves us with many wonderful friends, acquaintances, and memories of her wit, conversation, sense of humor and story telling. Gloria is survived by husband, George Day; daughter, Alice Barsanti; two grandsons: Logan Barsanti and Noah Barsanti; two granddaughter: Skylar Barsanti and Chelsea Barsanti of Meridian, ID, who will miss her very much. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 8th at 1:00 pm at the National Cemetery on E Pinnacle Peak Road in Phoenix, AZ, where her ashes will be interred until that day when she will be reunited with her husband George once again.
