Stewart Stanley Richardson died June 24, 2007. He was 26.
He was born July 31, 1980, in Keams Canyon. He was born to Near the Water-One Who Walks Around clan and born for Manygoats clan. His maternal grandparents were Red Bottom People clan, and his paternal grandparents were Red Streak into Water-Tobacco People clan.
Mr. Richardson was employed at the Navajo County Sheriff's Office as a detention officer since 2002. He was just starting out in life, having begun a family with Cynthia Schultz of Birdsprings. He had a 2-year-old stepdaughter Leilani Thompson, and Ms. Schultz was eight months pregnant with Mr. Richardson's first child.
He had been living in Holbrook and was in the process of moving back to Winslow. He died the day before his move back to Winslow. Mr. Richardson attended and graduated from Winslow schools. He spent a few years in the Denver area before returning to Navajo County and starting a career as a detention officer.
His hobbies included spending time with his nephews, going to movies and singing songs of the Native American Church.
He is survived by his parents, Darryl and Nory Ahasteen, of Winslow; his brother Sherwood (Jessica) Richardson of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters Shonna (Jason) Yellowhair of Winslow, and Cheryl Ahasteen of Flagstaff. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his natural father, Stanley Richardson, all of Cowsprings; and brothers Darraldo Todd Ahasteen of Pinon and Terry Tyrel Ahasteen of Winslow.
Funeral services were at the Church of Latter-day Saints, 205 Lee St. in Winslow. Burial at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow. Pastor Melvin Tsosie will officiate at the church and the burial site. A reception potluck will be at Darryl and Nory Ahasteen's residence north of Winslow, following burial. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
