CHURCH,
Henry Clay
The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Territory
Saturday, December 21, 1891
Died - Church - In Prescott, Dec, 18, 1891, in the sixty-first year
of his age, H. C. Church, a native of Franklin county, Maine.
Deceased had only been sick a few days. He made his will the
morning of the day he died, authorizing F. M. Murphy to act as his
executor. He was a miner in the strictest sense of the word and was
looked upon as an authority in all matters pertaining to that
industry.
He enjoyed the confidence, good will and highest respect of all
people and his death causes much sadness among our people, who feel
that they can ill afford to lose so good and useful a man.
Deceased has a brother in Kansas and relatives in Maine, to whom Mr.
Murphy has telegraphed as to what disposition to make of the
remains. Unless receiving telegrams to the contrary, the funeral
will take place this afternoon at an hour to be hereafter announced.

A Good Man Gone
Our entire community was shocked this afternoon to her of the sudden
death of H.C. Church, who had been a sufferer but a few days from
pneumonia. His death occurred at 2:30 p.m., at Hotel Burke, and so
sudden was the summons none knew the end was so near, not even those
few friends were at his bedside at the close, until an effort on his
part to speak and reach for a glass of water to plainly indicated
that the summons had come.
Mr. Church was a man universally esteemed, and the deep and sincere
regret expressed by all to-day over his death but feebly measures
and expresses the good will each and every one bore for him.
During his life Mr. Church followed mining, and in that profession
had gained a high and enviable reputation as a successful and
reliable man.
Every attention was offered him and nothing was lacking, in either
comfort or care. Several of his friends fearing this morning that
this usually fatal disease might terminate for the worst prevailed
upon him to make a will, which he did willingly did, authorizing F.
M. Murphy to act as his executor. Mr. Murphy telegraphed a brother
in Kansas and other relatives in Maine as to what disposition to
make of the remains, and upon the receipt of information future
arrangements for the funeral will depend.
Mr. Church had been unwell for several days prior to going to bed
and could not be prevailed upon to call in medical aid until
yesterday morning. He was born in Franklin county, Maine, August 6,
1830, and consequently was over 61 years of age.
