Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Friday, April 26, 2013 - Joann Swander, 82, passed away April 21, 2013 in Lake Havasu City. She was born March 13, 1931, in Albany, Ore., to Lloyd and Ina (Watson) Lennard. She was 14 and a majorette with the Albany HS band when she met the love of her life, Lloyd. Five years later they were married and have celebrated 62 years together. She kept busy with their church, Evangelical United Brethren, gardening club, a Cub Scout Den Mother and Sunday school teacher. She loved water skiing, horseback riding, camping, sewing and working with ceramics. When all three children were in school she became employed at Fairmont Elementary School in Albany as a librarian for many years until retirement. In retirement, Lloyd and Joann traveled the U.S. in their fifth wheel and took trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico, where Joann caught a larger sailfish than Lloyd. In 1997, they built a home in Lake Havasu, summering in Albany. In Havasu they enjoyed walks in Rotary Park, shopping, ice cream at McDonalds, camp trips with the Good Sam’s Club and active with Lake Havasu Baptist Church. She was a great cook and took special pride in making brownies for her granddaughters whenever visiting. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Lloyd Swander, of Lake Havasu City; son, Greg (Bonnie) Swander, of Lake Havasu City; daughter, Melinda (Swander) DeArment, of Albany, Ore.; and son, Jeff Swander, of Lake Havasu City; granddaughters, Sunny Swander, of Redwood City, Calif., and Sheena Swander, of Lake Havasu City; brother, Robert (Ida) Lennard, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Joann Eastburn, of Albany, Ore. The family is comforted knowing she is home with her Lord. Services will be Saturday, at 1 p.m. with viewing at noon, Leitz-Fraze Funeral Home.
