Mary Kathleen “Kay” Buckley Weiss was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Virginia, Minn., and grew up in Stillwater, Minn. After graduating nursing school, she married R.C. “Bud” Weiss, June 30, 1934, together they lived mostly in Minnesota, until retirement when they moved to Lake Havasu City in 1978, they had many happy years. Bud died Oct. 27, 1996.
Kay loved to sing; she was in the in the Catholic Choir and was in “Young at Heart." Kay was the recipient of excellent care in the home of Sherry Malm. She deeply loved all of her caregivers.
Kay celebrated her 100th birthday with family coming from many states and friends in Havasu. At her party she said, “I fulfilled my contract but my parts have reached their expiration date.” She received a plaque from the city for her 100 years and a brick in the freedom walk.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Gayle Pierce; son, Lawrence and wife, Irene Weiss; brother, John Buckley; sister, Patricia Ellinger; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A Rosary Service will be today at 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
As a memorial to Kay, please tell a good joke to someone close; she always appreciated a good laugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu in Kay’s honor.
