Al Gosen, 91, of Longville, Minn., and Lake Havasu City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Tucson.
Albert Gosen was born Sept. 14, 1921, to Jacob and Sara Gosen in Delft, Minn., one of seven brothers and five sisters. Al graduated from Windom High School and joined the Navy where he served in the Pacific during World War II. After his military service, he attended Mankato Teacher’s College. On July 22, 1949, he married R. Leona (Irish) Schluter and they raised four children together.
Following his retirement from his teaching career in 1982, Al and “Irish” spent time living in Lake Havasu City and Longville, Minn. In August of 1994, his wife “Irish” of 45 years died after a long battle with cancer.
Al continued wintering in Lake Havasu City, and during this time met Celeste Micek in 1995. They were later married and have spent the last 18 years together.
Al is survived by his wife Celeste Micek; children, Mary Gosen of Coon Rapids, Minn., Gail (Dennis) Brunsell of Blaine, Minn., Alan (Lorie) Gosen of Hinckley, Minn., Ruth (Jeremy) Powers of Fridley, Minn.; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and will also be greatly missed by the Micek family. Al is also survived by his five sisters.
Al was preceded in death by his wife Irish and six brothers.
A Memorial Service for Al will be Friday, May 3, at noon, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Longville, Minn. Inurnment will follow at Ponto Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Longville VFW Post #772.
Memorials are preferred to St. Edwards Catholic Church or the Longville VFW Post #772.
