GRANDY, Lester (Leslie) McClure


West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Leslie McClure Grandy, 92, of Buckeye died April 24, 2013. Mr. Grandy was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Buckeye to Claire Hindman Grandy and Roy Grandy. He graduated from Buckeye Union High School in 1939, and married Eleanor on Sept. 14, 1941. While farming, he also worked at Goodyear Aerospace as a painter and later as parts runner for Caterpillar Tractor Co. at the Arizona Proving Grounds. He retired in 1986 after 30 years. He was a founding member and officer of the Helzapoppin Rod and Gun Club and a firearm safety instructor. He was a member of the Helzapoppin Twirlers Square Dance Club during the 1950s. He was in the community church choir for many years, and most recently was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Eleanor Swenson Grandy; one daughter, Kathleen Towner; two sons, Stephen Grandy and Timothy Grandy; eight grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Grace Fellowship Church, 1300 N. Miller Road in Buckeye. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
