She grew up in Tulsa, the oldest of three children and helped raise her younger brothers Scott and Jerry Lysinger after the premature death of her mother. In 1942 she met James Walter (Jim) Woodcock, a lieutenant in the US Army and they were married 3 months later in January 1943 when she was 20. Eleven months later their first son, James Jr. was born. During this time, Emily was a homemaker while Jim worked full time and studied law at the University of Tulsa. When Jim graduated, he re-joined the military as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force and the family began a 17 year adventure that would take them to bases in California, the Philippines, Louisiana, France and finally Arizona. Along the way, they made life long friends, accumulated innumerable wonderful stories and had two more children, Barton Edward and John Scott. In 1970 Jim left the Air Force and the family settled in Phoenix where they lived until retiring to Munds Park in 1979. Emily was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was strong, intelligent, witty, generous and very proud of her family.
