MONTIERTH, Horace Melvin (Mel)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/03/2013 Horace Melvin “Mel” Montierth, 75, resident of St. Johns, died April 27, 2013, in Springerville. He was born May 29, 1937, in Mesa, the son of Horace Packer Montierth and Loretta Millett Montierth. Mel was an amazing spouse, father, grandfather and friend. Even though being a bishop for many years, he still always made time for his family. Mel enjoyed many things in his life, such as working in his garden and building random things out of wood; such as a canoe and swings for his grandchildren. He was a man of service; he would help his grandchildren with homework and he was on the board at the St. Johns Senior Center, where he served to make the community a better place. Mel is survived by his wife Taresa Joann Hunt Montierth; sons: Terry Montierth of Texas; Monti Montierth of Mesa; Lehi Montierth of St. Johns; Cliff Montierth of Syracuse, Utah; daughters: Cindy Lee of St. Johns; Ruth Baker of Mesa and Taresa Sessions of Mesa; brother Jack Montierth of Mesa; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyle Montierth, sister Nada Jones, daughter-in-law Jody Nielsen Montierth and grandson Matthew Montierth. Funeral services were held April 2 at the St. Johns Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment was held at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
