HOPPE, SR., William Harding (Bill)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/03/2013 William Harding Hoppe Sr., 87, died April 29, 2013, at his residence in Nutrioso. He was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Carl Junction, Mo., the son of Charles and Sarah Hoppe. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class from March 1944 to May 1946. He served in World War II aboard the USS Mississippi. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Trigg and Son, Brinlee, and Thomas Construction Companies. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping. He had a passionate love for his family and for God. Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years Ruth Hoppe; sons: William “Butch” (Cindy) Hoppe Jr. and Larry (Sue) Hoppe, both of Nutrioso; daughter Linda (Corky) Hoppe Avery of Powell, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Hoppe, half-brothers Pete and Howard Lewis, sisters Frances Hoppe McFerron and Edna (Hoppe) Musgrove, half-sisters Rhetta Allen, Marie Denning, Hulda Skoves and Hattie Temple, and grandson Roy Griffin. A viewing will be held from 6-7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Burnham Mortuary in Eagar. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Nutrioso Cemetery.
