Rodney L. Baylish, 28, of Eagar died May 4, 2013, in the White Mountains. He was born May 2, 1985, in San Carlos.
Rodney was a proud high school graduate May 2003 when his days at Ft. Thomas High School had finally ended. Whenever he would talk about school, he would always joke and say the teachers only passed him cause they liked his smile, but when it came to his younger family, friends and in-laws who were still attending school, he would stress how important an education is.
After graduating, he attended some college, but quickly became distracted once he met his wife Teneya. Not long after meeting her, he made a crazy-in-love decision to move to Eagar and start a life with her. Little did he know that he would be quickly welcomed into her community just as well as he was welcome in her family. At their wedding, family members joked that Rodney left his hometown friends and family telling everyone he would only be gone for the weekend, the weekend that never ended.
Rodney was a wildland firefighter when him and Teneya met and he continued to fight fires until his son, Geron, was born in May 2007. The very minute Rodney saw his son, he decided that staying close to home and out of danger was the best way to raise his baby boy. He then went to work with SES and did other side jobs to support his family up until August 2008. He then became employed with Round Valley Wholesale Lumber and grew onto his co-workers and supervisor Jason Hooper. He loved his job, smashed fingers and broken-down machinery in all. He supported his family and took great care of them, always.
This past winter, he managed to pay off all the expenses from December to April and spoil his family rotten during Christmas just by chopping and selling firewood. He would never complain, tire or stop looking out for Geron and Teneya and all know that will continue. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and this community, as well as all the other lives he and his smile have touched. Rodney will be remembered as a father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and in-law.
“Rodney, we all miss you so much and you will be missed immensely. We love you and we know you’re smiling down on us with God not too far.”
Rodney will be greatly missed by his surviving family, but mostly by his 5-year-old son Geron Baylish; wife Teneya Baylish; father Ronald Baylish; mother Betty-Jean Baylish; brother Alvin Longstreet; brother in-law Aaron Ironshell; sisters Apryl Baylish Ironshell and June Baylish; father in-law Carlson John Sr.; mother in-law Corinna John; brother in-law Jason Dorame; sister in-law Cheyanna John Dorame; brother in-law Carlson John Jr., sister in-law Nylynn John; brother in-law Jameson John; eight nephews, five nieces and a niece on the way.
He was preceded in death by his sister Chastity Dawn, maternal grandparents Jeff and Edith Longstreet and paternal grandparents Robert Sr. and Mary-Anna Baylish.
A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Springerville Presbyterian Church. Rodney will then be followed to his home town in Bylas, where there will be a one-night wake at the Baylish residence, and Rodney will be laid to rest Sunday, May 12, at Middle Mesa in Bylas.
Monetary donation are appreciated at the viewing. Food dishes are also needed for a potluck lunch to feed friends and family coming from near and far.
“Thank you all so much for your prayers as we continue to struggle through this heart-breaking time.”
