Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Thursday, May 9, 2013 - Maria Iginia Volpe passed away Monday May 6, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nev. at the age of 86. Maria was born Jan. 10, 1927 in Los Andes, Tachira, Venezuela to Gregorio and Trifina Hevia-Mora. Maria and her family resided in Boston, Mass. until relocating to Lake Havasu City in 1978. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking and was a great chef; but her greatest passion was being around people, especially her family. Maria is survived by her daughters, Yahira M. Volpe, of Cottonwood and Claudia Volpe, of Lake Havasu City; son, Joseph Volpe, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Aurora Hevia Peaquda, of Venezuela and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Giuseppe in 1985 and her eldest daughter, Josefina, in 1997. Visitation will be Sunday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home with Rosary to be said at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church with Father Chauncey Winkler officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria’s name to the Soup Kitchen at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, 1975 Daytona Ave., Lake Havasu City, AZ, 86403.
