Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory, Wickenburg, Arizona Glen W. Ackley December 19, 1918 ~ May 9, 2013 Glen Wesley Ackley, age 94, passed away May 9, 2013 at his home in Wickenburg. Glen was born in Hopewell, Kansas on December 19, 1918 to George & Rosa Ackley. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and had worked in construction. He and wife Mary came to Wickenburg in 1964. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church with visitation prior from 12:00 until service time at the Church. Interment with military honors will follow at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be make in Glen's memory to the Wise Owl Senior Center in Wickenburg. ~~~~~~~~ The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, May 15, 2013 Glen Wesley Ackley passed away May 9 at the age of 94 in his home in Wickenburg. Born Dec. 19, 1918 in Hopewell, Kan., he was raised on his dad’s farm until the age of 15, when he began trying to find his own way in life. At age 17, he arrived in Huntington Park, Calif.,, to join an older sister and where he went to high school. He also loved football, which he played for two seasons in Hopewell, Kan. In October 1940, he enlisted in the Army at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Calif., and served in First Battalion 4th Infantry for the Regiment Panama Canal Department. On Oct. 13, 1940, he landed in Anchorage, Alaska, where he participated in the Aleutian Island Campaign. He left the service on Dec. 29, 1944. From there he went into a life of building things he planned, design and created in the field of cabinet making, carpentry, and general construction -- starting in Bell and then in Pasadena Calif., and then finally in Wickenburg. He was married and had two sons, Thomas Wesley and Edward (Ted) Allen. His second marriage in 1966 was to Mary Frances and acquired three stepchildren -- Mary Lorraine, Joan Bernice, and Michael Brian He was a loving, giving father to all of his children, grandchildren, and devoted to his wife Mary. Surviving Glen are his loving wife Mary; children Tom (Loretta) Ackley of San Mateo, Calif., and Ted (Cindy) Ackley of Phoenix, Ore., Lorraine (Cole Sr.) Martin of Phoenix, Joan (Joe) Pollay of Wickenburg, and Mike (Michelle) Harrington of Lihue, Hawaii; grandchildren Jennifer, Todd, and Corissa Ackley, Cole Jr. and John Martin, Tim Harrington, Laura Stegeman, and Jill Abrahamian; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (May 16) at the Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Sam Weinschenk conducting. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from noon to 1 p.m., and interment with military honors will follow in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed to the Wise Owl Senior Center, Community Action Program, or the R&R Respite Care Program in Wickenburg.
