Robert F. (Bob) Beck
Former resident of Prescott, San Pedro, Calif., News-Pilot editor Bob Beck went to the "Great Composing Room" in the sky on May 4, 2013, at the age of 84 because of a ruptured aneurysm.
A country boy from Illinois who found his first arrowhead at age 7, he married his high school sweetheart and had two sons. He worked for the Illinois Central Railway, did a stint in the Navy, took advantage of the GI Bill and became a journalist. His career with the News-Pilot spanned more than 30 years.
He married Doris Theriault in 1987. After retirement, he and Doris spent 14 years in Prescott where he volunteered with the Smoki Museum, the Yavapai Chapter of the Archaeological Society, Mountain Artist Guild and Sister City.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. May 18, 2013, at the former News-Pilot building, 366 W. Seventh St., San Pedro, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Better Breathers Club, 1300 W. 7th St., San Pedro, CA 90732 or to the San Pedro Bay Historical Society, P.O. Box 1568, San Pedro, CA 90733-1568.
